What made you want to become an FNINR Ambassador?
I think it is so important for nurses to be involved in policy and advocacy. It is important that we can explain the importance of nursing and nursing research to the legislators.

How long have you been an FNINR Ambassador?
2 years

What advice would you give your younger self?
Do not take things so personally.

What made you want to pursue a career in nursing?
I wanted to help people and I like that we have so much contact with the patients.

What is a fun fact many people may not know about you?
I am in a Bon Jovi music video.

About Joan

Joan O’Hanlon Curry, DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, CPON, NEA-BC, FAAN is the Director of Nursing, Oncology and Palliative Care for the Mount Sinai Hospital. Joan is the past president for national APHON and is currently on the advocacy committee for both the American Organization of Nursing Leaders (AONL) and the Friends of the National Institute for Nursing Research (FNINR). She is very committed to mentoring young leaders and truly believes that the nursing voice has the power to change healthcare. She graduated in May 2023 from Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing with her DNP in Executive Leadership.
