What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't be so quick to have your life figured out. Opportunities & experiences happen when you least expect it. Have the courage to embrace them. 

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Big Sky, Montana - My family has vacationed there since I was young. A tradition that continues with my 5 brothers and our families. 

What made you want to pursue a career in nursing?
My best friend's mother was the Director of Nursing at our local nursing home where I worked as a nursing assistant. She had a huge influence on me and my passion for nursing, especially caring for the elderly.

What book should every nurse read?
Rising Strong by Brene Brown.

What is a fun fact many people may not know about you?
I have 5 brothers, 3 sons & 3 grandsons. No women yet! 

About Pamela
Pamela O. Johnson, MS, R.N. FAAN, N.E.A.-BC, is the Chief Nursing Officer, emeritus for the Mayo Clinic. In her role she was accountable for all aspects of nursing across the practice, education and research shields,  and provided leadership, guidance and direction across all Mayo Clinic sites to align Mayo’s 14,000 nurses as a single integrated nursing practice. In addition she was the first nurse executive to become a member of both the Mayo Clinic Board of Governors and Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees. She has spoken nationally on a number of topics including system integration and the integral role of professional nursing in contributing to healthcare redesign for patients and consumers.
