What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't be afraid to take calculated risks

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Tablerock Lake

What made you want to pursue a career in nursing?
My mother is a nurse and my mother-in-law was a nurse. I had a full ride scholarship for journalism after high school but I didn't want to leave my boyfriend. So, I went to nursing school. It worked out - my boyfriend and I have been married for 39 years and my career has been amazing! I wouldn't have had it any other way.

What book should every nurse read?
My book!  The Antidote to Suffering: How Compassionate Connected Care Can Improve Safety, Quality, and Experience

What has been your most interesting/surprising outcome while conducting nursing research?
That the art of nursing is as or more important than the science.  That connecting with patients improves their outcomes and improves engagement for nurses.

What is a fun fact many people may not know about you?
My first two years were spent in Japan (I learned to eat with chopsticks before I learned how to use a fork!)

What is your Twitter handle?
